The Data Manager is responsible for building a large data team capable of conducting high quality quantitative surveys and qualitative research in multiple regions of Ethiopia, managing data collection and auditing processes for several projects, recruiting an enumerator team, understanding all research approval processes and protocols at various administrative levels and coordinating efforts between clients, data team and the management. This position will include occasional travel during data collection phase of a project to supervise data collection activities.
The position will initially be part-time to help develop Laterite develop the capabilities to conduct research in Ethiopia. After 3 months and depending on the project pipeline, the position may be converted to a full-time position. The part-time role will consist of (i) conducting recruitment of enumerators in the major regions of Ethiopia and have an active database based on internal recruitment procedures and guidelines; (ii) understanding the process and requirements for obtaining research approval permits at the national, regional, woreda and kebele levels; (iii) developing a knowledge database of relevant data collection costs across the country, i.e. transport, accommodation, etc.
Laterite is in a constant process of expansion, and currently has over 25 permanent staff, including research analysts and associates, research managers, data managers, and field supervisors. Laterite regularly works with a team of over 300 enumerators in Rwanda and expects to build a similarly large team in Ethiopia capable of data collection in all the regions of the country. As a full-time Data Manager, you will be responsible for recruiting, training and managing that team. You will also ensure that all research work achieves the highest possible standards of quality by overseeing and contributing to each step of the data collection process. This entails monitoring data collection, supervising enumerators, implementing quality checks and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data, etc.
